LANGKAWI: State-owned Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (Sada) has been called upon to urgently address ongoing water supply disruptions that have severely impacted Langkawi residents.
Langkawi Umno Youth chief Mohd Radhi Abdul Rahim voiced concerns that residents in elevated and remote areas were increasingly frustrated by the frequent disruptions.
"Over the past three years residents in several settlements in Kuah town, Kampung Kisap, Belanga Pechah and Ayer Hangat are affected by the water supply disruption particularly during school breaks and festive seasons.
"The affected residents are fed up with the same old excuses by Sada that the problem is due to leaks on the submerged water supply pipeline from mainland to Langkawi.
"We want Sada to come and explain what is the short term solution to ensure that we get the needed supply," he said.
Radhi said the issue was disrupting the daily routine for those living in the affected areas, which also included tourism hotspots.
He added that the residents were also worried about the risk of not getting water supply during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha.
"I am informed that some areas are only getting the supply between one and two hours the most during late evening.
"The residents are not getting ample time to store the water before the supply is listed again for the next several days.
"The residents are frustrated that this issue is not being taken seriously by Sada, an agency under Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's administration.
"All it (Sada) is doing is just deploying water tankers to the affected areas," he said.
Radhi claimed that the delivery of water supply through the tankers was inefficient due to the lack of a fixed schedule and insufficient to meet the high demand.
"As of now, there is no official apology from Sada or the Menteri Besar for their failure to look after the welfare of the people and ensure all residents get access to treated water supply," he added.
