KOTA BARU: Mohd Azizi Abu Naim today claimed he is still a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) elected representative despite a recent announcement by the party that his membership had been revoked.
The Gua Musang member of parliament and also Nenggiri assemblyman said he and the other six Bersatu elected representatives had yet to receive any notice regarding their termination from party leaders.
Therefore, Mohd Azizi said he would continue to serve his people in the constituencies even as an ordinary assemblyman.
"Referring to Article 10.4 of the new party's Constitution which was amended recently, it states that the membership of an elected representative will automatically be revoked if we do not follow or give our responses to the party's directive.
"It is true that the Constitution was amended but it involved the anti-hopping law.
"Therefore, l feel that it is not fair for Bersatu to issue the statement that our memberships as elected representatives have been revoked," he told reporters after the state assembly sitting today.
Meanwhile, state Assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said Mohd Azizi would remain as Nenggiri assemblyman for the time being.
"The Kelantan assembly has yet to receive any letter from Bersatu about his (Mohd Azizi) termination," he added.
Yesterday, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim said he and the other Bersatu elected representatives have accepted the party's decision to revoke their memberships.
He said the last notice that we received was on May 17 asking them to declare their stance.
Mohd Azizi told TV3's Buletin Utama on Monday that the seven Bersatu elected representatives, who declared their support for the unity government, have raised questions on the legitimacy of the notice sent to them by the party to declare their stance.
Speaking on behalf of the group, he said this was the reason he did not respond to the notice before its deadline on May 31.
He said that the group wrote a letter to Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin seeking an explanation on the legitimacy of the notice.
It was reported that the memberships of the seven Bersatu elected representatives have automatically ceased.
This, according to Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, is because the six MPs and one assemblyman failed to adhere to the party's directive.
Mohd Azizi was among the seven Bersatu-elected representatives, who declared their support to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership.
He is also among the two MPs from Kelantan who declared their support to the Prime Minister. The other was Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.
