SEPANG: Starting from July 1, the issuance of halal certification by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will take a shorter period.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the new process that had been adopted into the department client's charter would see the certificate issued within 30 days.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the tabling of 2024 Budget, said the government would reduce the processing time for halal certification from 51 days to 30.
The Halal Development Corporation (HDC), in collaboration with Jakim, would lead efforts to streamline the certification process, especially for halal product exporters.
"The Malaysia Productivity Council (MPC), in its paper presented in the Halal Industry Development Council meeting earlier, reported the implementation of synergising the certification administration with the new process taking less than 30 days.
"Its implementation must be continued based on the pre-certification, certification and post-certification framework that was decided last year," said Zahid, who is the Halal Industry Development Council chairman, in a statement today.
