JOHOR BARU: The Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) clarified that five popular restaurant chains do not hold the Malaysian halal certification.
A statement released by Jakim's Halal Management Division addressed concerns raised after a letter bearing its official letterhead was circulated on social media platforms on the halal status of the five restaurants.
Jakim's corporate communications unit confirmed the letter was authentic and was in response to an inquiry submitted to Jakim via the Public Complaints Management System.
"According to checks in Jakim's MYeHALAL system, the five restaurants are not certified halal establishments.
"The feedback provided by the department has been generated through the Public Complaints Management System," the statement read.
Those seeking to verify the halal status of any premises or product are encouraged to use the Malaysia Halal Portal at http://myehalal.halal.gov.my/portal-halal/v1/index.php.
