KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan's official visit to Jordan kicked off with a visit to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO).
In a Facebook post, Hasan said he met with JHCO Secretary-General Dr Hussein Mohammad Al-Shebli on his first day there.
"This organisation is dedicated to carrying out humanitarian missions to Gaza via the King Hussein Bridge. Currently, this bridge is the only land route to Gaza that remains open since the closure of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt on May 7. I understand that this is the most cost-effective method of delivering aid compared to air delivery," he said.
As an organisation established by the Jordanian government, JHCO plays a crucial role in managing the delivery of humanitarian aid received from various international organisations and donor countries.
In this regard, Mohamad said Malaysia is committed to collaborating with JHCO in efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza now and in the future.
"In this meeting, I represented the Malaysian people by presenting a donation of USD500,000 (RM2.359mil) through a mock check from the Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine (AAKRP) managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he said.
JHCO greatly appreciates the generosity of the Malaysian people in providing donations as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
"May this cooperation continue to bring hope and much-needed assistance to the Palestinian people in Gaza, God willing," he added.
