Penang police probing case of Customs officer accidentally shooting himself

GEORGE TOWN: Penang police are investigating a case involving a Customs Department officer said to have accidentally shot himself.

State police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad told the New Straits Times that police are investigating the matter.

"Under police investigation," he said in a brief text.

Based on a report making its rounds in a messaging group, the incident is believed to have happened at the Customs complex in Seberang Jaya about 9.45am today (June 11).

It is learnt that the pistol used, a CZ-P10, belonged to another personnel.

The 42-year-old victim is said to be trying out the pistol when he accidentally shot himself.

He was then rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.

The Customs Department is supposed to have a shooting training in Kulim today.
