Beyond the Headlines: Azam Baki on MACC's fight against corruption, CPI rankings and more [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: In the latest episode of Beyond the Headlines, the team discussed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) latest strategic focuses to address corruption — bolstering enforcement mechanisms, ensuring transparency and accountability in procurement, and addressing large-scale corruption cases.

Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki joined us on set and got up close and personal to emphasise the link between these areas, national security and the economy.

Azam highlighted the challenges in changing public perception, but the ongoing efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remained steadfast in battling graft.

The commission, he said, investigates any corruption complaints based on evidence and legal processes, regardless of political affiliations.

Azam addressed calls to place MACC under Parliament's purview, arguing against it by pointing out that the agency is already monitored by five independent oversight bodies.

He also stressed collaboration with other enforcement agencies to adopt undercover methods to detect and address corruption internally.
