SEREMBAN: Two people sustained serious injuries in a seven-vehicle collision at KM274.9 of the northbound North-South Expressway near Ainsdale this morning.
Nilai police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said the 6.50am accident, in which four others suffered minor injuries, was believed to have been caused by a lorry losing control and veering into the right lane.
He said the two seriously injured victims were identified as the driver and passenger of a Perodua Ativa and were sent to Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital for treatment.
"Investigations revealed that at the time of the incident, a Daihatsu lorry driven by a 74-year-old man, accompanied by a 60-year-old attendant, was travelling from Tampin towards Kajang, Selangor.
"Upon reaching KM274.9, the lorry allegedly lost control and veered into the right lane," he said in a statement today.
Earlier, Plus Expressway Bhd reported that the accident caused a 10km traffic congestion.
Abdul Malik said five cars and another lorry travelling behind the Daihatsu lorry attempted to avoid it but collided with one another.
"Three passengers in a Perodua Myvi and the attendant of the Daihatsu lorry sustained minor injuries and are also receiving treatment at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital."
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Abdul Malik said anyone with information on the incident can assist the investigation by contacting the Nilai district control centre at 06-790 4389 or the investigating officer, Inspector Zakaria Mohamad Jais, at 019-699 0142.
