KUALA LUMPUR: Top junior chess players from the region will lock horns at the Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships (EAYCC) in Penang on July 12-21.
The competition, which will be held at the Cititel Hotel in George Town, will feature various age groups ranging from under-eight to under-16.
Up to 400 players are expected to compete in the event, which is being organised by the Penang Chess Association and supported by the Malaysian Chess Federation.
The competition will feature standard, rapid and blitz format categories.
Penang State Sports Council director Harry Chai said the tournament will provide Malaysian players with the platform to showcase their talent.
"It is our hope to see a multitude of young chess stars emerge from Penang and go on to represent Malaysia in international tournaments," said Harry recently.
PCA expressed their appreciation to the Penang state government, BWYS Group, Penang Property Angel and TT Vision Holdings Bhd for their support for the tournament.
