Over 1,000 accompany PN's Sungai Bakap candidate for nominations

NIBONG TEBAL: Over 1,000 Perikatan Nasional (PN) supporters came to support their candidate for the Sungai Bakap State Assembly by-election at the Jawi Multipurpose Hall here today.

PN candidate from Pas, Abidin Ismail, 56, arrived at 8.50am accompanied by Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang; Pas vice-president Datuk Seri Idris Ahmad; Bersatu vice-president Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin; and PAS Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

Also present were PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor; Muafakat Nasional chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa; and Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.

PN supporters were then seen reciting prayers and performing zikir together while awaiting the announcement of the candidate's confirmation by the Election Commission (EC).

As of yesterday, EC had announced that six nomination forms had been sold, but as of 9.50am today, only two candidates had submitted their nomination forms.

EC has set the early voting day for the Sungai Bakap State Assembly by-election on July 2, with polling day on July 6. The campaign period will last for 14 days starting today until 11.59 pm on July 5.

The Sungai Bakap State Assembly by-election is being held following the passing of its incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24.
