KUANTAN: Road users caught on camera throwing rubbish on the Central Spine Road between Kuala Lipis and Merapoh will receive compounds.
Pahang Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) director Sharudin Hamid said the Lipis District Council is scrutinising CCTV footage in order to identify the vehicle registration numbers.
"Since the cameras were installed on the road on June 1, there has been a drastic drop in litter. Our approach to educate the public is showing positive results. Maybe they are scared of being caught (littering) on camera.
"SWCorp has been in touch with the Lipis District Council and we are looking at the footage, including the vehicle registration numbers. The council will issue compounds to the motorists," he told reporters at Indera Mahkota 2 here today.
Sharudin earlier attended the SWCorp and Alam Flora Sdn Bhd rubbish bin replacement programme and Labour Day celebration with Pahang Alam Flora workers here.
Garbage on the Central Spine Road, which has no rest stops or petrol stations, made headlines in April.
SWCorp had previously placed rubbish bins on the road and put up banners to educate motorists but the measures were not effective.
