Tg Segenting boat tragedy: Second body found identified as Tan Hai Lian, says MMEA

KUALA LUMPUR: The identity of one of the four fishermen involved in the Tanjung Segenting boat tragedy in Johor, whose body was found today, has been confirmed as 62-year-old Tan Hai Lian.

Batu Pahat Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) maritime commander Mohd Haniff Mohd Yunus said the body of the victim was found washed ashore on Pantai Koris by members of the public who were in the area at about 11.30am.

The body of the victim, he said, was handed over to the police which in turn referred to the case to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat.

Haniff added that a total of eight marine and air assets were deployed in the search operation, which entered its third day today with the involvement of the MMEA, police, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force.

Earlier today, it was reported that, the search team found the body of one of the four fishermen reported missing after their boat capsized at Tanjung Segenting here last Friday.

During the incident, Hai Lian and four other fishermen, aged between 43 and 63, went missing when their boat capsized about 6.8 nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Segenting at about 6am due to bad weather and strong waves.

Only Tan Siak Bin, 43, survived after nearby fishermen rescued him at 8am on Friday.

The body of another victim, identified as 53-year-old Chiah Kah Chong, was found by a group of fishermen at about 7pm yesterday.

The fishermen who are still missing have been identified as Lee Poh Ling, 68, and Raub Darus@Hamid, 53.
