KUALA LUMPUR: A light aircraft departing from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang made an emergency landing in an open area near Port Klang.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed the incident, saying that the aircraft, a Piper PA-28-161, issued a Mayday call at 2.58pm.
"The aircraft, carrying two passengers, took off from the airport at 2.50pm. A Mayday call was received by the Subang Control Tower at 2.58pm.
"The aircraft, with the registration number 9M-ANA, was operated by the Subang Flying Club," the CAAM statement read.
The statement added that the Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (KLARCC) at the KL Air Traffic Control Centre activated the first responders at 3.10pm to coordinate rescue operations.
"An investigation will be conducted in accordance with Part XXIII of the Civil Aviation Regulation 2016," the statement read.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said the aircraft landed in an open area near Bandar Sultan Suleiman, and that those on board the aircraft were uninjured.
State operations officer, Mustakim Rimon, who was at the scene, said the aircraft showed no visible fire damage. The pilot, Rolando Barba Jr, and trainee pilot, Muhammad Ridz Farhan Ridzwan, were reported to be safe, in the incident.
"The department received the emergency call at 4.13pm, and fire engines from three stations – Klang Utara, Port Klang, and Klang Selatan – along with 23 personnel, arrived at the scene at 4.42pm," read the statement.
