[UPDATED] New sinkhole emerges in Masjid India [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Another sinkhole has emerged about 50 metres away from the site where a tourist was swallowed along Jalan Masjid India here.

It is understood that the latest sinkhole appeared in the early hours of this morning.

This new sinkhole is located just in front of the Masjid India police post.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman confirmed the incident.

"A discussion is ongoing regarding the possibility of expanding the cordoned-off area.

"We will provide further updates later," he said.

Checks revealed that the police have cordoned off the entire span of Jalan Masjid India this morning.

The police have taped off the junction near Wisma Haniffa and are not allowing vehicles or pedestrians to use the road.

The latest sinkhole emerged just as search and rescue effort for Vijayaletchumy enter its sixth day.
