KUALA LUMPUR: The Women's Aid Organisation (WAO) has extended its condolences over the passing of one of its dedicated trustees, Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin, acknowledging her tireless efforts in advancing women's rights.
"We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin," the organisation said in a statement.
WAO said Noor Farida began her role as a trustee from the early days of the organisation and her passion and commitment to empowering women and advocating for their rights were truly inspiring.
"Her dedication and tireless efforts in advancing women's rights have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working alongside her.
"Her contributions to WAO have helped shape the lives of many and her legacy will continue to live on through the important work of the organisation," it said.
WAO also acknowledged Noor Farida's efforts as co-founder of G25, an organisation of retired civil servants that aims to promote a more inclusive and tolerant Malaysia, respecting the country's constitutional principles of justice and equality for all citizens, regardless of race or religion.
Earlier, G25 executive secretary Jasmine Zulkifli had confirmed Noor Farida's death.
Noor Farida had a notable 36-year career in Malaysia's civil service, serving as a judge, ambassador to the Netherlands, and a director-general of a department at the Foreign Ministry.
After retiring in 2012, she continued to champion women's rights through advocacy roles with the National Council of Women's Organisations and as a trustee for WAO.
