KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia has lost a gem in the nation's art and music industry following the passing of legendary figure Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab.
In a Facebook post today, Anwar also expressed his condolences to the family of the composer, who passed away at his home in Taman Melewar, Batu Caves, this afternoon.
"The nation has lost a remarkable figure and a gem of the arts, whose immense contributions enriched the musical landscape of our country.
"His works are not only a cultural heritage but also a unifying force within our society.
"Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab was more than just a distinguished composer and musician. He was the soul of Malaysian art, touching the hearts of millions through his poetic works, filled with beauty and meaning," Anwar wrote in the post.
It was reported that the sad news of his passing was confirmed by his grandson Khairul Hafis Khan.
He said while Ahmad Nawab had no chronic illnesses, his health had been fragile following recent treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
