KUALA LUMPUR: The Johor government views allegations against Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor, involving RM20 million in corruption as a malicious attempt to undermine the royal institution.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi condemned the spreading of this defamatory content on WhatsApp, describing it as irresponsible, disrespectful and offensive.
He said the accusations, among others, include Tunku Ismail being involved in a corruption case with Malaysia's Anti-Corruption Commission anti-money laundering director Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin, amounting to RM20 million.
"The state government takes this matter seriously as it involves the royal institution and will not compromise with any party that disturbs the harmony and sovereignty of the state and the nation," he said in a Facebook post today.
He said the state government has filed a police report regarding this matter.
He urged the authorities to conduct an investigation and take firm action against those involved in spreading this defamation.
"The state government hopes that this issue will not be prolonged to the extent that it jeopardises the sovereignty of the royal institution, which could threaten the harmony of the state and the nation, as well as the unity of the multicultural society," he said.
