MoE conducts internal probe into the death of student who fell off Kajang school building

NIBONG TEBAL: The Education Ministry has conducted an internal probe into the death of a 13-year-old boy, who died after falling off the fifth floor of a school building in Kajang three days ago.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek said an internal investigation is currently underway.

She said she would nevertheless leave it to the authorities to conduct a full investigation.

"First, I would like extend my condolences to the boy's family, friends and the school. I think this isn't easy for everyone because this incident happened at school.

"However, I want to remind everyone about safety. As far as the ministry is concerned, we do not compromise on safety.

Therefore, from time to time, we remind schools to always enhance the safety of students.

"At the same time, we have taken important post-incident intervention measures, focusing on psychosocial counseling and providing full support to the victim's friends, family and the school.

"This incident is deeply saddening, and we are truly affected by it," she told newsmen when asked to comment on the incident.

It was reported that a 13-year-old boy from a school in Kajang, who was in a critical condition after falling off the fifth floor of the school building three days ago, died yesterday.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the victim was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Kajang Hospital at 2.30am.

Further investigation through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained showed that the victim was believed to have fallen off the fifth floor of the school building.

At the same time, Fadhlina said the ministry aimed to enhance its efforts in issues related to addressing bullying symptoms at all levels, especially with guidelines and regulations that have been established on handling bullying incidents.
