[UPDATED] RTD seizes Singapore-registered tour bus without road tax & insurance

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Road Transport Department (RTD) seized a Singapore-registered tour bus after it was found without a valid road tax and insurance coverage in Jalan Datin Halimah, here, today.

The 52-year-old Singaporean driver had a valid driving license issued by the republic, but was unable to produce a Malaysian-issued licence nor a public service license.

State RTD director Azmil Zainal Adnan said the bus was seized while the driver was slapped with summonses.

He said the bus was seized in accordance with Section 64 (1) of the Road Transport Act, which allows a vehicle to be impounded to identify its operator and to stop the offence from being continued.

The driver was released after his particulars were recorded.

Summonses were issued under Section 23 and 90 of the same act for driving without a valid license and not displaying valid road tax.

Azmil said there were no passengers in the tour bus when it was seized.

He added that the department will continue its operations against errant commercial vehicle operators with focus on several areas in the district, namely Johor Baru, Kulai, Batu Pahat, Ayer Hitam, Pagoh, Segamat, Tangkak and Bukit Gambir.
