Perak State Assembly says yes to batik attire on final day

IPOH: Members of the Perak State Assembly sitting are allowed to wear batik on the last day of the sitting, which falls on Thursday.

Perak State Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid stated that the three-day sitting would begin on Tuesday (July 9) and conclude on Thursday (July 11) at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here.

"The sitting will span three days, and traditionally on Thursdays, batik attire is permitted. So, batik attires can be worn in the Hall.

"But, I would like to remind everyone that it must be Malaysian batik — not (those) from Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Africa, or any other country," he told reporters at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan today.

Present were State Assembly Secretary Abdul Majid Abdul Rahim and Deputy Perak Speaker Jenny Choy Tsi Jen, who is also the Canning assemblyman.

He added that on other days during the sitting, members of the Hall, including media practitioners, must adhere to the attire rules.

Meanwhile, Zahir said two motions were received from Keranji and Simpang Pulai assemblymen and are expected to be the focus of the sitting.

"The first motion proposes to introduce a new Enactment or Regulation related to the control of stray animals in Perak by establishing a special select committee comprising relevant state assemblymen.

"The second motion proposes convening a special conference to address extreme weather phenomena, climate change, and flash floods affecting the state's residents."

He further said six assemblymen, three from the government and three from the opposition, would be allowed to debate each motion, with each given 15 minutes.

During the sitting, the oral question session would last three hours each day, compared to the previous norm of between one and one-and-a-half hours.
