Early dissolution of Sabah state assembly will hamper development, says Sabah Pas

KOTA KINABALU: An early dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly, as proposed by certain parties, could cause anxiety among the people.

Sabah Pas information officer Mustaman Mustain said to ensure stable governance, the Sabah government, led by Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, should remain in office until the end of its term to maintain stability and ensure the well-being of the people.

"For example, the 2025 Sabah Budget, recently approved with the highest allocation in history (RM6.421 billion) and encompassing various people-centric initiatives, would be disrupted if the state assembly were dissolved prematurely.

"Programmes such as the RM300 monthly assistance for the poor, construction of Rumah Mesra SMJ, and RM5,000 aid for small-scale traders would face delays, directly impacting those in need," he said in a statement.

He added that early elections would distract the government from focusing on these pressing matters.

Mustaman said the party also believes that preserving the Sabah state legislative assembly until the end of its term demonstrates respect for the people's mandate given in 2020.

He added an early dissolution would be perceived as a betrayal of the trust placed in the government by voters who expect it to fulfil its term and deliver on its promises.

"Sabah Pas asserts that rejecting the proposal for an early dissolution would avoid unnecessary financial burdens and voter fatigue.

"The electorate is already weary of excessive politicking, and calls for dissolution without legitimate reasons only deepens their dissatisfaction."

As for the corruption allegations, he said they can be resolved through existing mechanisms such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission without destabilising the political landscape.
