Zahid launches educational tour targeting Bumiputera children in rural areas

KUALA LUMPUR: The government, together with the Bumiputera Education Movement of Malaysia (GPBM), has launched the Kembara Kesedaran Pendidikan Anak Desa Madani (KeDESA) programme to help Bumiputera children in rural areas continue their education.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the initiative aims to identify and support 10,000 Bumiputera children within the next three to six months.

He said the programme aims to help children pursue their education and raise awareness about the importance of education.

"This programme also serves as an intermediary between students and educational institutions to enable them to pursue higher and more skilled education.

"The KeDESA team will travel to 40 rural and remote areas across the country. I request that the related agencies help with this KeDESA programme.

"This will lead to them achieving their objective of finding 10,000 Bumiputera children within the next three to six months to assist them in their studies. It will also raise awareness about the importance of education," Zahid said in a speech before officiating the programme, here today.

Zahid, who is also the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council chairman said efforts are also being mobilised to make TVET education a game changer by focusing on skills training.

He said the success of the effort was reflected through the employability rate of TVET graduates which has now increased to 94.5 per cent in 2023.

He said no one should be left behind in various career sectors, especially those with a strong inclination towards technical education.
