SHAH ALAM: A social media account misusing the name and images of Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has been detected.
State police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said they received a report from the Selangor Palace Office on Monday.
"The report was lodged as checks revealed that Tengku Amir Shah did not own the TikTok account," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said further investigations revealed that the account in question was fake and used an image of Tengku Amir Shah as its profile picture, as well as his name.
"The public is advised to refrain from creating social media accounts involving any member of the royal institution.
"This is to avoid irresponsible parties misusing images or personal videos of the royal families," he said.
Hussein said the case was being investigated under Section505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements with intent to cause fear or alarm to the public and induce any person to commit an offence against the State or public tranquillity.
"The case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for misuse of network facilities.
"Those with information on the case should contact senior crime investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Md Anuar Md Amilah @ Harun at 019-2255 597," he said.
