KULIM: One of two young brothers that were in critical condition after ingesting snacks laced with rat poison has died today.

Kulim deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Safuan Md Nor confirmed that Muhammad Akil Syauqi, 3, died at Penang General Hospital at around 8.30am.

"It was informed that the three-year-old victim died at around 8.30am today at Penang General Hospital.

"The investigation officer is on the way to the hospital, that is all I can disclose for now," he said in a brief statement today.

On Monday, it was reported that the brothers, Akil, 3, and Muhammad Luth Syauqi, 2, were fighting for their lives and are currently hospitalised at Penang General Hospital.

Kulim district police chief Superintendent Mohd Asyil Mohd Khairi said that the boys likely ingested the poisoned snacks hanging on a wire fence intended for wild animals encroaching near their home in Kampung Banggol Berangan, Labu Besar, in Kulim.
