KOTA BHARU: Pas president, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has called for a study on the Mufti (Federal Territories) Bill 2024.
He said this was important because of the different schools of thought or mazhab in Islam.
The bill, which has been tabled in the Dewan Rakyat for first reading, addresses various aspects related to the mufti's role and Syariah law among others.
Hadi said he is of the view that no scholar allows their mazhab to be declared as the state religion and that Islam was the state religion.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the Kelantan International Convention here last night.
Also present was Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.
Earlier today, Kelantan Pondok Teachers Association Syura Council member, Dr. Muna Hamzan, said all Muslim members of Parliament must support the bill.
He said this was important to curb radicalism.
