Kelantan govt to probe use of 'magic mushroom' vapes among students

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government will hold a meeting with the state Education Department soon to discuss claims of students using vapes containing 'magic mushroom' liquid.

Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said he was unaware of the claims and will seek more information from the department.

"We will be discussing the issue in detail with the department," he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the Kelantan 'Membangun Bersama Islam' International Conference 2024 here today.

Magic mushrooms are a type of mushroom that contain the chemicals psilocybin or psilocin, which can cause hallucinations.

Yesterday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Abdullah told the Dewan Rakyat that findings from a drug abuse research showed that 65 percent of the 152 students polled had used vapes mixed with magic mushroom liquid.

The survey was conducted by researchers from the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian.

Saifuddin said the findings were tabled during a recent state drug action council meeting. The findings also showed that the students involved were aged between 13 and 17.
