Two men, including a Thai national, held for filling modified trailer with subsidised diesel

ALOR STAR: The General Operations Force (GOF) arrested a local man and a Thai national who were filling diesel into a foreign-registered trailer at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Industrial Zone yesterday (July 11).

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's Kedah office director, Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin, said the GOF team carried out the raid about 6am yesterday.

"Upon inspecting the premises of the controlled items wholesaler, the raiding team found a Thai-registered trailer was filling diesel.

"Further checks revealed that the premises owner was suspected of selling a controlled item (diesel) to an unauthorised buyer.

"They also found a modified additional tank to store diesel in the trailer's prime mover," he said in a statement.

Nizam added that the GOF team then seized 1,688 litres of diesel with an estimated value of RM5,654. They also seized the trailer.

He said the Jitra magistrate's court had granted a four-day remand order against the two suspects beginning yesterday, for further investigation.

The case has been classified under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which carries a fine of up to RM1 million for a first-time individual offender or a maximum RM2 million fine for a company upon conviction.
