KUALA LUMPUR: Members of parliament (MP) have been urged to conduct a medical checkup latest by November, this year.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said fellow MPs can conduct their medical checkup in government facilities including Parliament clinics or in private healthcare.
He also said any MPs who failed to conduct a medical checkup would have their name appear on the Parliament's website.
"Without exception, the issuance letter on medical checkups has been distributed to all MPs.
"The medical checkup can be conducted by the Parliament clinic or private (healthcare) facilities and is mandatory for all MPs," he said when opening the Dewan Rakyat session this morning.
He added that the medical checkup was also conducted last year in collaboration with the Health Ministry.
The checkup was also helpful in detecting the health condition of MPs and allowed preventive measures to be taken immediately, he said.
On a different note, Johari added that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) will present any findings conducted by them in the Lower House to provide extensive coverage and exposure to the people, moving forward.
He added that the decision was made during a meeting held with both PAC chairman and PSC on June 24.
"The presentation of reports by PAC and PSC can be carried out through Standing Order 14(1)(l) read together with Standing Order 25, where the respective chairpersons can make this presentation after obtaining the Speaker's permission.
"The chairman of PAC and PSC need to give notice under the Standing Order to make the presentation.
"Despite the presentation not being debated, I will provide space for MPs to give their views and seek further clarification," he said.
