BATU PAHAT: Ninety-nine students from SMK Tun Aminah complained of stomach aches and symptoms of food poisoning after consuming food and beverages from the school canteen on Thursday.
Eleven students received outpatient treatment at government and private clinics.
Following the incident, the school canteen operator has been instructed to cease operations while investigations are underway.
State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon confirmed ongoing investigations into the suspected food poisoning cases at the school.
He said the Batu Pahat Health Department was collecting information from affected students and their parents to aid in the investigation.
"We will take appropriate actions once our investigations are completed," he said, noting that the canteen had been temporarily closed under the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act 1988.
Meanwhile, a parent of a Form Three student described how his daughter fell ill shortly after consuming "ayam gunting" (thinly sliced batter-fried chicken) and "air balang" (cordial drink) from the school canteen.
She developed symptoms of nausea, severe stomach pains, diarrhoea, and vomiting, prompting a visit to a nearby clinic where she was diagnosed with acute food poisoning.
The parent also mentioned receiving a directive from the district health office to provide details of his daughter's symptoms via a Google form to assist in the investigation.
As of now, the student remains unwell and unable to attend classes.
