Ab Rauf rebukes Rembia assemblyman over claims of being 'left hanging' by Umno

KUALA LUMPUR: Melaka Umno state liaison body chairman, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, has rebuked Rembia assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis, who claimed that he was "left hanging" by the party.

Ab Rauf stated that Muhammad Jailani should understand the reasons behind the party's actions during his suspension.

"If he says he is 'left hanging', I do not agree. It is as if we are married without a registrar, divorced without a declaration.

"Supposedly, when the party takes action, during the 'iddah' period of suspended membership, we should follow party's ethics to correct mistakes and understand what led to his suspension.

"So, if we do not show alignment with the party, then the party has the right to carry out its duties as the administrator to the representatives in this party.

"This includes issuing warnings and no longer providing facilities as a representative based on the pledge letter signed and agreed upon by both parties," he said in a press conference today.

Muhammad Jailani previously reported that allocations in his area were blocked, making it difficult to provide services to the people.

He said that the action was akin to being "left hanging", even though he had sent a letter to the Umno Disciplinary Board requesting to be dismissed from the party.

"I have asked nicely but was suspended (membership). It is like you are married to me, but you torture me... left hanging.

"Blocking allocations and seizing my office. How am I supposed to serve?" he said.

Previously, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced Muhammad Jailani's membership in PAS since June.

Takiyuddin stated that the decision was made after receiving Muhammad Jailani's application on June 10, 2023.

Muhammad Jailani had previously won the 14th General Election (GE14) on a PKR ticket, and he was among the four Pakatan Harapan (PH) ADUNs who jumped to support Barisan Nasional (BN) to take over the state administration in March 2020.

He was said to have been expelled from PKR before announcing his entry into Umno to enable him to be selected to contest again representing BN in the State Election on Nov 20, 2021.
