KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is waiting for a reply from Rembia assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis to confirm that he is a Pas member before deciding on the next action.
Melaka Chief Minister and state Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said a letter has also been sent to Pas to get confirmation that Jailani has joined the Islamist party since July last year.
"Until today, we have not received any official documents from the Rembia assemblyman to confirm that he has joined Pas apart from his conference on the matter.
"We need to see the documents to confirm that he has indeed become a Pas member since July this year as he claimed during his announcement.
"Only after that, we can proceed with the next course of action against him," he told reporters after visiting the Laman Media at the Umno General Assembly here today.
Asked on the next course of action if Jailani failed to respond to the request, Rauf believed that the matter would be raised during the Melaka state assembly sitting scheduled to take place in November.
"The (Melaka) Speaker will decide the next course of action during the state assembly sitting.
"He will perhaps need to answer to the Speaker to confirm his position (if he has indeed joined Pas)."
Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan on July 16 announced that Jailani has joined the Perikatan Nasional component party.
Takiyuddin also confirmed that Jailani made an application to join the party and that the latter has been a Pas member since June last year.
