KUALA LUMPUR: Media personnel have begun to camp outside the gates of Istana Negara to report on the installation of the 17th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim.
As early as 7am, reporters were seen sitting on fold-up chairs and standing along the road leading to the main gate in anticipation for the arrival of important guests.
Among those who made the ascent from Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim to the hilltop palace were Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah, Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his wife, Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis.
Cameras on tripods line the boulevard, while dozens of armed police can be seen on either side.
Meanwhile, the weather has been exceptionally fair with bright skies.
Sultan Ibrahim was elected the 17th king of Malaysia at the special 263rd meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara on October 27 last year, replacing Al-Sultan Abdullah of Pahang.
