KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic on major roads around Istana Negara is running smoothly amid installation ceremony of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the 17th King of Malaysia today (July 20).
As of 11.30am, checks made by the New Straits Times along several roads saw low to medium traffic with minor congestions spotted.
However, the congestions were not caused by road closure for the installation ceremony, but motorist trying to take their exit.
Checks were made on Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang, and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim.
No roadblocks were in place, but police would halt traffic to make way for convoys ferrying royal guests.
Policemen in their mobile patrol vehicles were also seen patrolling along the roads mentioned.
Previously, City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a total of 14 routes would be closed in stages today.
He said the road closures would be done to facilitate the movements of royal guests.
The affected roads are Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, Jalan Semantan, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Istana, Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway, Jalan Kuching (south bound), Bulatan Dato Onn and Jalan Parlimen.
