Woman prays for miracle as youngest brother still missing at Batu Layar beach

KOTA TINGGI: A woman has prayed for a miracle that her youngest brother Haqim Abdul Rahim Lee, 20, who went missing at the Batu Layar beach will survive.

Nur Diana Abdul Rahim Lee, 50, said the incident coincided with the 41st day since their father Abdul Rahim Lee Abdullah died.

She said she received a call from her mother who lives in Kempas at 10.30am today to inform her of the incident involving Haqim, the youngest of seven siblings.

Nur Diana, who lives in Pengerang, said she immediately rushed to the location to get further information on the incident.

"My mother told me that he (Haqim) went for a picnic at Batu Layar with his friends, and she advised him not to swim at the beach, which he usually obeyed.

"(But) we were informed that all four of them, including my brother, were swept away by the waves.

"My brother and a friend of his were carried further away. His friend's body had been found but Haqim's fate is unknown," said the eldest child of the siblings.

She said Haqim often shared his activities in the family WhatsApp group, including organising tahlil prayers for their late father.

"May there be a miracle for Haqim, even though we are aware of the risks of being swept away by the waves in the area.

"Whether he is still alive or not, we hope that the rescue team will be able to find him."

Earlier today, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Sedili maritime zone acting director commander Mohd Najib Sam said the Johor Baru Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) received a distress call around 11.20am regarding the incident.

He said Haqim and another friend, Muhammad Syahmi Zamzam, 26, were seen frantically splashing and waving before they went missing around 9.30am.

Syahmi's body was found around 3.15pm on a beach about 1.5km away from where he went missing.
