KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed strong support for the recent agreement between Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas, praising the Beijing Declaration as a significant step toward Palestinian unity.

In a Facebook posting, Anwar highlighted the importance of the declaration in achieving Palestinian solidarity and advancing the rights of the Palestinian people.

"I welcome the agreement between Fatah and Hamas aimed at strengthening Palestinian unity. The Beijing Declaration represents a promising step towards achieving Palestinian solidarity, so crucial for realising the rights of the Palestinian people," he said.

Anwar also commended China for its role in facilitating the historic talks between Fatah, Hamas, and twelve other Palestinian political factions.

"I commend the government of the People's Republic of China for facilitating talks between Fatah, Hamas, and twelve other Palestinian political factions."

He expressed hope that this newfound unity will lead to concrete progress on the ground and prove resilient in the face of future challenges.

Emphasising the need for international support, he urged governments worldwide to recognise the State of Palestine and back the unity efforts.

"International backing is essential, and I urge governments that have not yet done so to recognise the State of Palestine and support these unity efforts," he said.

He also called for an end to the ongoing violence against Palestinians by Israeli forces, labelling the attacks as barbaric.

"Malaysia stands ready to actively promote all measures towards that end," he said.
