Penang to honour 1,346 recipients at state awards, Kit Siang heads list

GEORGE TOWN: Veteran politician Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang heads the state's highest honour list in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak's 75th birthday this year.

Lim is the sole recipient of the Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri (DUPN), which carries the title "Datuk Seri Utama".

A total of 28 recipients will receive the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), which carries the title "Datuk Seri".

The 29 are among 1,346 recipients at this year's state honours.

State legislative assembly speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said Ahmad Fuzi had agreed to confer 142 state awards, comprising DUPN, DGPN, Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN) and Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) this year.

"A total of 10 recipients will receive the DMPN and 103 recipients the DSPN, which carry the title 'Datuk'.

"Meanwhile, 102 people will receive the Darjah Johan Negeri (DJN), 30 people the Bintang Cemerlang Negeri (BCN), 205 people the Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji (PKT), 328 people the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK), 516 people the Pingat Jasa Masyarakat and 22 people the Pingat Bakti Setia (PBS).

"For this year, the Pingat Gagah Perwira (PGP) will be given to Sergeant Mazlan Abdul Rahman, who saved two people who fell off the Penang Bridge in January this year. In appreciation for his bravery, the Tuan Yang Terutama will confer him with the PGP award," he said.

Among the DGPN recipients were former Media Prima Berhad chairman Datuk Abdul Mutalib Mohamed Razak, Bank Negara Malaysia governor Datuk Shaik Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Khaw Kok Chin and Army Western Field Commander (Panglima Medan Barat Tentera Darat ke-24) Lt Gen Datuk Muhammad Huzaimi Sabri.

Others included Law himself, state secretary Datuk Rosli Isa and Prime Minister's Department Implementation Coordination Unit director-general Datuk Azman Ibrahim.

Among the notable recipients of the DMPN included Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (investigation/legal) Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad and Honorary Consul General of The Republic of Fiji Datuk Cha Hoo Peng.

Among the recipients of the DSPN included Micron Technology Asia Business Partnering senior director M. Moorthy, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) managing director Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz, state executive councillor Rashidi Zinol, state Health Department director Dr Fazilah Shaik Allaudin and Penang special branch chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Winston Tan Thye Wa.
