Crowd goes crazy over French metal band at Olympic opening show

PARIS: The Olympic Games opening ceremony saw an electrifying performance by French band Gojira, marking a historic moment for fans of metal rock.

Perched in window openings of a riverside castle, the band delivered a powerful set that left audiences at the venue and watching from home in awe.

Opera vocalist Marina Votti made an appearance on a ship float overlooking the river, creating a stunning blend of metal and opera.

Fans took to social media to praise the decision to include Gojira in the ceremony.

An Instagram user known as Taji said the band deserved a "gold metal" for the performance.

X user Zasha said: "Gojira just showed the world how it's done. I love that a French heavy metal band opened the Olympics with headless Marie Antoinettes. That's so metal!"

Another user, Katherine Tweedy, said: "The shock and horror from people seeing Gojira at the Olympics is very funny to me."

Gojira on Instagram posted: "Once in a lifetime experience. Thank you Paris, you looked good from up there!"

The opening ceremony featured much of the city and included videos of a torchbearer running across rooftops and through iconic locations.

Boats gliding along the Seine were adorned with Olympic rings, transforming a dreary night into a spectacular scene.

During the parade of nations, the Malaysian contingent wore a golden-hued attire designed by Rizman Ruzaini, showcasing the nation's heritage and cultural pride.
