PORT DICKSON: Some 40 fishermen's families in the Pasir Panjang area here will receive RM1,000 in monthly compensation throughout the construction of the Lexis Hibiscus 2 development project, which started last month.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said that during the project's construction, a large portion of the sea area will be closed, affecting the fishermen's income.
"This compensation is provided to make up for the fishermen's inability to go to sea during the project's development.
"I have also been informed by the project's developer that they will prioritise job opportunities for the children of the fishermen's families (once the project is completed).
"The development of this project is expected to create some 5,000 employment opportunities for local residents," he said in a statement issued after attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the Lexis Hibiscus 2 Development in Kampung Sungai Menyala here yesterday afternoon.
Aminuddin added that the project, expected to be completed by 2029, is a strategic collaboration between KL Metro Group and Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan Incorporation (MBINS).
As the state investment committee chairman, Aminuddin said the project's architecture, inspired by Malaysia's national flower, the hibiscus, will make Lexis Hibiscus a unique attraction for both domestic and international tourists.
The construction of the resort is expected to strengthen Port Dickson as a premier destination for luxury tourism and vacations, in addition to activities involving meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions.
The Lexis Hibiscus 2 development will be built adjacent to the existing resort, covering 32.37 hectares of land.
The project is estimated to cost around RM1.6 billion, with construction components including 1,710 accommodation units, comprising 910 units over water and 800 multi-level pool suites.
