PORT DICKSON: An outing for six teenagers on their way to Seremban ended in tragedy when the car they were riding in crashed into an excavator near a traffic light near Kampung Gelam here early this morning.
District police chief Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed said the accident happened at 1.45am, resulting in two of them dying on the spot.
"Initial investigations by the police found that the car was driven by a 24-year-old youth with five teenage passengers aged between 16 and 19 years from Port Dickson towards Seremban.
"The 24-year-old car driver and an 18-year-old female college student died at the scene due to injuries to several limbs.
All other passengers were slightly injured, while the excavator driver did not suffer any injuries," he said in a media statement today.
He said initial investigations found that the accident occurred when the car driver had tried to avoid a cone on the road and skidded.
"As a result, their car crashed into an excavator that was involved in the installation of underground cables.
Aidi Sham said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 and the investigation is still ongoing.
"People or witnesses who have information about the accident can contact the Port Dickson IPD Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 06-6472222," he said.
