DAP ready to assist in campaigning for Nenggiri by-election

GEORGE TOWN: DAP is ready to assist Barisan Nasional (BN) in campaigning for the Nenggiri (Kelantan) State seat by-election next month if there is a request from any parties from the Pakatan Harapan component parties.

DAP Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching said the party would not take its own initiative to organise any programmes for campaigning purposes, because the most important thing now is to ensure the Unity Government's representative wins the by-election.

"If that is not a DAP seat, we did not place our candidate, we are more than happy to standby and assist, that is our approach. DAP is ready to assist component parties and always ready to help," she told reporters after visiting the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in Pengkalan Kota, here today.

Kelantan UMNO had announced state UMNO Youth chief Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, representing Barisan Nasional, as the candidate for the coalition's quest to win the Nenggiri state seat by-election which is called following the Kelantan state assembly's announcement that the seat is vacant after the incumbent, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim was expelled from Bersatu on June 13.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Aug 17 as the polling day for the Nenggiri by-election, with nomination set for Aug 3 and early voting on Aug 13.
