Loke won't campaign for BN candidate in Nenggiri polls unless invited

GOMBAK: I am not shameless, I won't go without being invited, says DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

Loke said this when asked why DAP had not campaigned with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Nenggiri by-election.

Loke denied that DAP did not agree with the unity government's election process in the by-election.

"I have said that we do have a spirit of togetherness.

"If there is an invitation, we will go. If there is no need, we don't go because there is a view that maybe we are not needed," he told reporters after attending a special joint operation against tour buses and public transportation at the Road Transport Department's Gombak enforcement station today.

"I may have a big face but it is not as thick as Dominic Lau's (president of Gerakan)," he said.

Loke wished the Umno candidate the best of luck in the by-election.

On Monday, BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani said he would not turn DAP away if the party members came to help his campaign in the Nenggiri by-election.

Azmawi said he had no right to refuse if the party was willing to help in campaigning.

When asked about the "Umno-DAP" or "UmDAP" narrative raised by the opposition, he said it was just a perception and his responsibility was to win the hearts of the voters.

"We as candidates are responsible for winning over the hearts of the voters," he said.
