PUTRAJAYA: The Fire and Rescue Department is in the final stage of preparations to introduce the Anti-bribery Management System (ABMS) for its Fire Safety Division.
Its director-general Datuk Noor Hisham Mohammad said they expect to introduce the ABMS by October this year.
"Between January and May this year, the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission opened investigations into 248 civil servants.
"In the context of our department, 47 complaints over integrity violations had been received including eight involving our Fire Safety Division," he told reporters after attending the department's monthly assembly at the Fire and Rescue headquarters here today.
The ABMS is designed to help companies prevent, detect and respond to bribery incidences.
The system includes compliance with laws, regulations and other voluntary commitments. He said two years ago the ABMS was implemented within the department's Procurement Division.
"We started with the Procurement Division as our initial checks revealed that it had the highest risk. Now we are expanding it to the Fire Safety Division," he said, adding that they hoped to encourage the whistleblower culture through the system.
He said they wanted to introduce a culture where personnel have a safe space to report to their superiors if they encounter any elements of non-transparent activities.
"The system will also show that we are responsive in taking action against complaints received while also managing perception on integrity," he said.
