Mat Sabu expresses condolences over Hamas leader's death

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu expressed his condolences over the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Iran today.

The agriculture and food security minister, on Facebook today, said he was shocked and saddened by the news of Ismail's death.

"He was not just a close friend, but also a determined leader who fought tirelessly for the well-being and freedom of the Palestinian people, who are under the continuous oppression and cruelty of Israel," he said.

"The late Ismail devoted his life to fighting for human rights and justice for his people, often facing extraordinary challenges with courage and steadfastness."

Mohamad said Ismail's martyrdom would leave a significant void, and his spirit will continue to inspire everyone who yearned for justice and peace.

"We will all remember his devotion with a passion that never fades and continue to condemn Israel's unjust actions.

"May his soul be blessed and his family and the Palestinians be given strength to endure this time of grief."

Earlier, the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed Ismail's death. It said an investigation was underway.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani, in a statement, expressed condolences over "the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh to the proud nation of Palestine".
