Jagdeep in recovery stage, continues to get doctors' attention

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is expected to meet with Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo's family tomorrow to get an update of his condition and whether he needs to extend his leave.

Speaking at his office in Komtar here this afternoon, Chow said he had been getting updates from time to time on Jagdeep's health condition.

He said the state executive council members had also been briefed on the matter.

"I am told he is in the recovery stage and continues to get attention from his doctors. His leave ends on Aug 5. I will be meeting his family tomorrow.

"If there is a need for him to extend his leave, I hope the application comes in soon so that I can approve it to enable him to continue his treatment," he said.

Chow expressed hope that Jagdeep would recover soon and return to performing his duty.

"When I met him last, we discussed the possibility of him extending his leave, if needed.

"We just hope he will get the necessary treatment and recovers," he added.

Chow had recently dismissed claims suggesting a change in Jagdeep's position.

He had said the matter had neither been raised nor discussed.

Jagdeep had applied for 11 days leave, until Aug 5, to undergo health checks and a procedure on his left leg.

Jagdeep, during an interview with the New Straits Times, had dismissed claims that he was taking a step back from official duties amid talk that he was on garden leave.

He said he did not know where the talk about him going on garden leave came from.
