KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will visit Sungai Golok, Thailand, and Rantau Panjang in Kelantan tomorrow.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement today that the two leaders would evaluate the progress of the Rantau Panjang-Sungai Golok bridge upgrading project.
The bridge is one of the main border crossings between the two countries.
"The prime minister will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nassuruddin Daud," the ministry said.
Both prime ministers will also discuss key bilateral issues, including land boundary matters, developing the border areas and the Southern Thailand Peace Dialogue Process.
The visit is a follow-up to a previous bilateral engagement in Sadao, Thailand, in November 2023, during which both countries agreed to promote people-to-people ties and enhance economic activities along the border.
"In 2023, Thailand was Malaysia's sixth largest trading partner globally and second largest among Asean state members, with total trade valued at US$24.83 billion (RM113.16 billion)," the Foreign Ministry said.
