S'gor MB assures Bazarena Stadium Shah Alam traders of spot at KSSA once completed

SHAH ALAM: The state government has given its assurances that all licensed traders at Pasar Tani and Pasar Karat at Bazarena Stadium Shah Alam will have designated areas from which to operate once the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) is completed.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said an area for them had already been designated in the development plan for KSSA, which is expected to be completed in 2026.

"It has already been designated... in the plan, there is already an area where they (the traders) can operate.

"We guarantee that almost all (the licensed traders can operate in that area). InsyaAllah, I have already given my assurances. I will ensure that all the traders can operate there (but) only those who are licensed... not those who operate illegally," he said.

Amirudin was commenting on the grievances and concerns of some traders who claimed that only a few would secure trading spaces at KSSA once it is completed.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the state level "Fly the Jalur Gemilang" campaign.

Amirudin said, once KSSA was completed, operational hours would not necessarily be on Sundays only, adding that there were plans for a rotational system which would include Saturdays.

"We can rotate... not necessarily (everything will be on) Sunday. We can do Saturdays and Sundays, depending on the suitability and the available site.

"We will implement that, and everyone will be able to trade as usual with better trading spaces," he said.

It is understood that the traders have been operating at Bazarena Stadium Shah Alam since 1999, with many of those there now being second generation traders, having taken over from their parents.

The traders sell various items, including fresh goods such as vegetables, meats and fruits, as well as staple foods, ready-to-eat meals, clothing and more.

The Pasar Tani, which is also used as a Ramadan bazaar site every year, is one of the most well-known locations not only in the surrounding area but elsewhere in the Klang Valley.
