Police investigating article claiming major reshuffle in Bukit Aman

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened investigations into an article published by a portal claiming that there will be a major reshuffle of Bukit Aman's top brass.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a report on the matter was lodged today.

He said investigations have been opened under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for making statements with the intent to cause fear or alarm among the public and for inducing any person to commit an offence against the state or public tranquility, as well as misusing network facilities, respectively.

He advised the public to refrain from speculating on the matter.

"Stern action will be taken against anyone who spreads fake news on social media."

Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain dismissed a report claiming that Bukit Aman was planning a major reshuffle of its top leadership.

He confirmed that he had discussed the report with Bukit Aman Inspector-General of Police Secretariat (Administration) head Datuk Kamaruzaman Abdullah.

The portal suggested that Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay might be appointed to lead the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency or Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency.

The article, citing sources, claimed that Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain could be appointed as director-general of the National Anti-Drugs Agency.
