'Adik fainted, atuk and nenek are stuck in the fire'

MUAR: The horrifying scenes 14-year-old Norazima Mohd Radhi witnessed early this morning will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.

As a fire ravaged her grandparent's home in Kampung Paya Redan, Pagoh, Norazima, who was injured, managed to escape and seek the help of her neighbours.

Her cousin, Rozana Abdullah, 48, was among those who came to her help.

"Norazima saw me and hugged me. I asked her where is adik?," Rozana told reporters at the scene, referring to Norazima's younger sister, Noradriana Nor Hisyam, 11.

"She told me adik had fainted. I then asked about atuk and nenek (grandparents), she said they were stuck 'in the fire'. I was stunned.

"She was in fear and hugged me tightly. I could only shed tears."

Norazima's grandmother, Ara Abdul Hamid, 76, her grandfather, Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82 and Noradriana were killed in the 1.30am incident.

Villagers in the area tried their best to help and douse the fires but to no avail.

While Noradriana was rescued from the burning house, she died while receiving treatment.

Aside from the girls and their grandparents, the house's other occupant is their uncle, Azman Mohamed, 48.

However, he reportedly fled after the incident.

Norazima and Noradriana lived with their grandparents after the death of their parents.

"I feel sad when I think of the life they (Norazima and Noradrina) have," she said, adding they are good children.
