Unexplainable trending "Maybank" is good for tourism, says Kota Kinabalu MP

KOTA KINABALU: Locals are baffled by a local bank, which is commonly found throughout the country, becoming a must-visit site for tourists looking to take pictures.

The branch, located near Gaya Street, has ceased operations.

Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin noted that the Maybank branch in Kota Kinabalu has unexpectedly become a popular tourist attraction among Chinese visitors to Malaysia.

The site is especially trending on the social media platform Xiao Hong Shu.

"Although I don't quite understand the trend, it's clear that our city is gaining popularity among tourists, which reflects the rich tourism resources Kota Kinabalu has to offer," he said in a Facebook post.

According to Sabah Tourism Board's statistics, 203,869 tourists from China visited Sabah between January and June.
