KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has yet to receive any reports from athletes competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics on being cyberbullying victims.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, however, said he was aware of grouses among athletes who feel like they are being cyberbullied.
Fahmi said comments from social media users on athletes competing in the Paris Olympics could be deemed as cyberbullying if they negatively affect the mental health of the athletes.
"I have not yet received the latest report, hence, I do not have the updated information (on athletes being cyberbullied).
"Nevertheless, I will look into the matter if athletes feel that their wellbeing is affected for example (due to such cases) as we sometimes see that the comments from netizens are rather harsh, regardless from fake accounts or not.
"I will also ask MCMC to issue a follow-up statement (regarding the issue)."
